The latest topic about Indian cricket is retirement of the fab 5. I was just wondering how this became such a hot topic? It speaks volumes about these cricketer's talent and record that for almost a decade, they were unseperated from the Indian Test team. If this is the case, then it means couple of things. Either they are doing amazingly good, or there is no one knocking the door hard to replace them. I feel both the above points are true. Whoever wants these cricketers to retire, can they suggest the players who can replace them? Test cricket is not fun. Yes agreed, younger players also have to be given chance so that they can be groomed. But definitely not all in one night. As far I could remember, I cant recollect a single series when these fab 5 collectively failed except for the recent Srilanka series. Is it because of that series, this hue and cry is happening now? Even the young talent failed miserably with Ajanta Mendis in the one day series. This happens in every era, great players struggled to handle initially against Warne, Murali and Kumble. And Ajanta Mendis is truely a different spin talent that world cricket has rarely seen. Because of one bad series, noone should forget their past performances they had produced for India. Lets give them time, and they still have it in them.
Now coming more specific to my title, I am truely surprised Sachin is also included in that list. I am not undermining the remaining by a bit, but still it is too childish to talk about a player who once carried whole of India's hope on his shoulder. He has never been inconsistent, there may be some lapse in form for couple of matches, but there is hardly any series he has under performed. People talk about his average is very poor in finals and second innings. Let me ask one question, who brought us to the finals then, who made us to be still in the match in the second innings then? It is not an individual game, and it is a team game, and one man cannot win matches for a team. It is so unfortunate that player like Sachin is not part of winning any world championship simply because cricket is a team game.
Let us not decide Sachin's retirement, let him call his day by his own, this is the last thing that we can give to this awesome player who deserves anything and everything.
